We wage nonviolent war against fiscal state terrorism

Fiscal (financial) state terrorism is embedded in right wing welfare reforms, and modern claiming procedures are a minefield. Standing up against such conditions for the welfare of ourselves and others takes great courage and skill. Yet we endeavour not to harm anyone else, even the perpetrators of 'welfare reform' war crimes against the economically vulnerable.

'Never attend anywhere official alone' is our golden rule

This Thursday 9 June at 09:30 members of Kilburn Unemployed Workers Group will be standing outside Kilburn Jobcentre, 3 Cambridge Avenue, London NW6 5AH meeting and greeting claimants as they enter and leave that building. Location map.(1) As usual, we can expect the privatised G4S staff and/or Jcp management to call the police in an attempt to remove the attention we draw to what goes on inside that building, and any police presence that arrives to realise that we are not a threat to the public and least of all to vulnerable adults and staff inside the building. (The Department for Work & Pensions are the real danger to vulnerable adults and staff and to standards of service delivery.)

On this particular occasion, there is an added message of UK-wide solidarity. For on Thursday 9 June Scottish Unemployed Workers Network activist Tony Cox will again be hauled up in court for spurious charges. Edinburgh Coalition Against Poverty is calling for Tony's supporters to attend Dundee Sheriff Court for 10am in support of Tony Cox and the right to be accompanied. Advocacy is STILL NOT a crime — Solidarity with Tony Cox June 9th(2) We cannot transport ourselves up to Dundee Sheriff Court in support of Tony's appearance there on that day, but we can get a group 'selfie' AND give some support where it's required on the same day.

On Thursday 9th June at 10am, please come and show your support for Tony Cox – arrested for trying to accompany a woman to her Work Capability Assessment and now on trial accused of 'Threatening Behaviour' for insisting on her right to have him accompany her.
When Tony was up in court before in October 2015 ,SUWN and ECAP called for a Britain wide day of action which involved groups from London, Wales, Dorset and Liverpool and others. Again we call for another day of action across the entirety of Britain. We are inviting groups to protest on the 9th of June at their local job centres for the right to be accompanied and in solidarity with Tony.

... if you’re fond of a joke, you might like this description of the SUWN from Tony’s charge sheet. Apparently we ‘solicit’ outside jobcentres and attempt to ‘coerce’ benefit claimants to get them to have us accompany them! You couldna make it up – but someone just has.

Higher up on the same blog post, I read:

Of course courts are inherently full of rules and controls, but the case took place amid tight security, there was a heavy police presence outside, and we were taken aback to be told that only three members of the public would be allowed in. When it was pointed out that courts are meant to be publicly accessible, they soon gave that one up.

 In that, I was reminded of how the Welfare Reform Act 2012's war of even greater attrition was smuggled through the House of Lords by Welfare Reform Minister Lord Freud by staging a reading of the Bill in a Committee Room that had little space for wheelchair accessibility. The Broken of Britain blog called for its supporters to:

Highlight the injustice and hypocrisy of the government's behaviour in trying to sideline this important Bill into a room too small for all the Lords to attend and certainly too small to allow those in wheelchairs, or with guide dogs, the very people most affected by this bill to be able to observe from the public gallery.

If we make enough noise before 3.30pm today the government will have to drop this underhand tactic and the Bill will continue to be debated in the main chamber of the House of Lords where everyone who wishes to can attend and observe.

And the matter of lack of witnesses is implicit in today's reporting on the Jimmy Saville abuses at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in the 1970's. In the 1970's there was a huge PR machine behind Jimmy Saville amounting to a manufactory of consent for whatever he planned. Now in the 21st Century there is a manufactory of consent via The Sun, The Mail, and whatever, for the smear stories soliciting General Election voters to make life ever harder for the economically not so advantaged.
